My entire monthly stack for building and running apps costs less than $20 Here’s how I keep it cheap: 1. VPS + Coolify instead of paying for expensive hosting like Vercel. I run my apps and database on my own server. 2. Cloudflare for database backups. Or use a separate VPS. Never keep your backups on the same server as your database. If it goes down, everything goes down with it. 3. A free Telegram bot for real-time alerts about what’s happening in my apps. Errors, signups, suspicious activity, payments. I built my own notifications instead of paying for another monitoring tool. 4. Open-source tools whenever possible. If I can self-host it or build a lightweight alternative, why add another subscription? You don’t need a $200/month stack to build profitable apps. You need to know what you’re actually paying forfrozen14d ago22K362226034103.83%
The mistakes I made this week that cost me a painful amount of money: 1. Upgraded my codex plan to a $100 plan to test Astra. Hated it. It broke one of my apps and caused 5 customer subscriptions to fail. 2. Moved my apps to a new Google Play developer account because I changed my business structure. Something went wrong with the migration and 3 more subscriptions failed with a 404 after the trials ended. 3. Tried to upgrade my claude plan, then realized I had unused credits I could have used instead. Contacted support, got a bot, cancelled my plan, moved me to a free plan and lost my old plan and credits. All three were my mistakes. Which honestly makes it even more frustrating. But this is also why customer support bots can be so painful. Some problems need a human who can actually look at your account and fix the mess. Expensive week. Expensive lessons.frozen24d ago17K29941194222.61%

Things that will blow your mind if you move from Europe to Southeast Asia: 1. Everything takes longer You order a coffee and it might take 15 minutes to arrive. Breakfast can take even longer. At first it drives you crazy. Then you learn to slow down. 2. Small luxuries become affordable A pool, a nice villa, massages, cafés, healthy food, beach life. Things that can cost a fortune in Europe become normal. 3. You don’t have to give up quality Great gyms, restaurants, cafés, WiFi and AC are everywhere. You just pay Southeast Asian prices. 4. You forget winter exists If you like warm weather, you might genuinely stop owning a jacket. 5. A motorbike gives you insane freedom Around $50/m rental and you can go almost anywhere. Beach, mountains, restaurants, random little villages. 6. Your days off actually feel like days off In Europe, going somewhere for the day can feel like a whole operation. Here, you just get on your bike and go. 7. Housing is on another level A modern 2-bedroom place with good WiFi, AC and sometimes a pool can cost under $1,000/month in many places. 8. You get a lot of your time back Less cooking, cleaning, commuting and dealing with everyday life. The biggest change? You don’t just spend less. You start realizing how much of your life you were spending on things you didn’t actually care aboutfrozen28d ago13K1065182201.15%

“What about everything your taxes pay for in Spain?” Okay, let’s break it down: 🇪🇸 SPAIN 👵 Pension: “guaranteed” → Nothing is guaranteed 30 years from now. I invest for my own retirement anyway. 🏥 Healthcare: €0 → Until you need a specialist and wait 18 months. → Want to be seen sooner? Private insurance. Pay twice. 🛣️ Roads + infrastructure → Also exist in every country. 🇮🇩 INDONESIA 🏥 Health insurance: ~$50–100/month → Need a doctor? Call. Get an appointment. Go. 👵 Retirement → I invest my own money anyway. 🛣️ Roads + infrastructure → Also covered. And I can actually see improvements happening around me. So yes, Spain has a social safety net. But pretending that everything is “free” because it’s included in your taxes is a very convenient way to look at it. I’d rather pay for what I actually use and build my own safety net.frozen1mo ago7.7K82129591.63%

I just paid $3 for ONE LITER of petrol in Bali. Normally, it costs about half that. A fuel shipment didn’t arrive on time, supplies ran low, and people in some tourist areas have been queuing for up to 8 hours to fill their tanks. Up north, it’s less noticeable, but most petrol stations are closed. The few still selling fuel can charge a premium. Do I like it? No. Do I understand supply and demand? Absolutely. It’s the same with SaaS. When something becomes scarce and people desperately need it, prices change. Business is business. Although, being a foreigner in Bali, you quickly learn that sometimes the price also depends on how much people think you can afford.frozen4d ago5.3K29124121.07%

I spent a year of my 20s traveling around Southeast Asia on $20-25 a day. That included accommodation, food, and transport. Yes, it was cheaper back then. But I still had to make choices. Sometimes I’d debate whether to have breakfast or get that fancy coffee. I probably could have afforded both, but I’d have had to travel for less time or work more. I chose the experience. I don’t regret a single bit of it. Those years taught me to live with less, appreciate what I had, and understand that sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the life you want. Fast forward to today. I’m making $5k MRR, living in Asia, and I can afford a lifestyle I couldn’t even imagine back then. But here’s the funny part. I still hesitate before buying a $6 100% cacao bar, booking a $100 dive trip, or spending money on something I don’t really need. When you’ve spent years counting every dollar, you don’t suddenly stop thinking that way just because you earn more. Maybe that’s a good thing. I know what it’s like not to have money. I know what it costs to earn it. And I know how much freedom it can buy you. Those years weren’t wasted time waiting for my life to begin. They were part of the reason I built the life I have now. Sometimes, the sacrifices you make today become the reason you can afford the life you want tomorrow.frozen8d ago5.2K1281280173.35%

Exactly 2 years ago, I was in Bali finishing my first SaaS. I hadn’t even joined X yet. I wanted to help scuba instructors, so I built something like Glassdoor for the diving industry. First mistake: making it free. No payments to figure out, at least I was a junior developer with barely any AI, zero knowledge of marketing or validation, and so much to learn. Instructors signed up, but the anonymous reviews were BRUTAL. The amount of hate was unreal. I eventually had to shut it down because those reviews could get me into legal trouble. Fast forward 2 years: 6 more SaaS projects 4 mobile apps Making a living from my own products I’m so proud of how far I’ve come. The bittersweet launches, the mistakes, the failures. They’re all part of getting better.frozen10d ago4.8K1992532145.59%

The challenge is finding a place where we can both work, enjoy our hobbies, afford a nice life and not get killed by taxes as an online entrepreneur. I’ve decided to put YouTube on pause. For over a year, I’ve been sharing everything I’ve learned as an indie hacker. But honestly, I can’t believe this video explaining how I grew my ig account to 10K followers and scuba app account to 5k followers in 3 months hasn’t even reached 1,000 views. I’m not complaining. Maybe I’m not great at explaining things yet. Maybe my English isn’t good enough, or I’m just not that entertaining to watch. These are things I wanted to learn and improve at. But right now, I’d rather put that time into growing tt and ig accounts for my apps, because that’s what’s actually working for my business. At the end of the day, I want to build a business, not become a YouTuber. Maybe one day I’ll come back and make videos just for fun.11h ago4.3K1390431114.55%

Think SaaS is dead? Here are 3 things you should do: 1. Stop overpricing your SaaS Charging $99/month for a glorified API wrapper isn’t a business moat. It’s an invitation for someone to vibe-code your product over the weekend. Cheap isn’t always better, but neither is charging enterprise prices for a weekend project. 2. Stop building products that can be vibe-coded in a day If a developer can replicate your entire product in a few hours and host it for $5/month, you have a problem. Build something with real complexity, unique data, distribution or a reason people keep paying. 3. Sell to non-technical people They don’t want to spend their weekend configuring APIs, debugging code or maintaining their own AI agents. They want their problem solved. And yes, marketing to them is harder than posting on X about your latest AI wrapper. But that’s exactly why there’s still an opportunity. SaaS isn’t dead. What’s dying is building things that are easy to copy, expensive to run and impossible to differentiate.frozen10d ago2.8K423160122.58%

I’ve missed a lot of sunsets in my life. Some because of jobs I hated, where I was expected to stay in meetings I didn’t even agree to be part of. Eventually I said no. Even when they offered me more money. Because money isn’t everything. Then I spent years building my own products thinking the more hours I worked, the faster I’d get where I wanted to go. It took me a while to understand that this is a long game. Your mental health matters. Your time matters. Having a life outside your work matters. And you can’t spend every day comparing yourself to someone who got there faster. Sometimes that 30 minutes watching the sunset will do more for you than another 16-hour workday. And the best part? I stopped manually copying viral videos now I just send GPT-6.1 sol an ig reel, and it picks matching clips from my content folders, writes the text, matches the music, and puts everything together. 30 seconds. zero manual work. less than 1% of my plan per video 5-10 second tt and reels, fully automated. Why was I doing this by hand?frozen5d ago2.4K40290213.05%
I used to think going viral was mostly luck Now we have models like Fable 5 that can analyze a viral video second by second. Why did it work? What was said? When was it said? How was it delivered? Then give you a script to recreate the same pattern. And if your version doesn’t go viral, give both videos back to the model. It’ll show you the differences. Because you probably didn’t recreate it as closely as you thought. The words, delivery, pacing and timing all matter. Virality still isn’t predictable. But it’s becoming a lot less mysterious.frozen20d ago2.4K391160163.06%

i gained 1,000 followers from one ig carousel about diving with tangled hair and badly fitting wetsuits. i built a scuba app. this is part of my marketing. here’s the breakdown: 1. one very specific audience women who dive 2. a hook they immediately understand “things nobody told you in your open water course as a girl” 3. problems i know from experience the cold. the hair. getting changed on a boat. gear that doesn’t fit. i was a dive instructor before i learned to code. i have plenty of material one problem per slide, with photos of me diving my app on the last slide, after the useful stuff the comments are full of women sharing their own experiences, adding tips and tagging friends. some disagree too 1,200 new followers doesn’t mean 1,000 customers. i still need to see how that translates into bookings. but it’s giving me a much clearer idea of what my audience cares about. if you’re building an app, try this: write down 5 things your users complain about that have nothing to do with your app’s features. there’s probably a post in each one.frozen26d ago1.7K26110092.66%

The best ads don’t feel like ads. They make you stop scrolling because you need to know what happens next. A fight. A secret. A ridiculous plot twist. That’s what makes these AI drama ads so interesting. With Arcads, you can turn a simple product idea into a short story, pick the visual style, create the characters and build the whole thing around the product. The ad becomes the content. And that’s probably why this format works so well.frozen14d ago1.7K12160111.79%

I built Be Underwater because I was tired of seeing how outdated scuba booking platforms were Support tickets taking days to get answered. Basic features that didn't work. Big commissions and bookings where they didn't even verify if your email address was real. These platforms have big teams, years of experience and way more resources than I do. Yet somehow, I was seeing problems they hadn't bothered to fix. And here's the thing: having more employees doesn't automatically make you more efficient. Spending millions on influencers and marketing doesn't make your product better. I didn't vibe code my platform over a weekend because I did it before AI, but it's nothing wrong with that. AI is leverage. Now, AI gives solo founders tools that would have been unthinkable a few years ago. You don't need to outspend established companies. You need to understand the problem better and build a better solution. The old way of building software isn't the only way12h ago947814021.58%
