in our office, it’s the battle of the claudes. whenever there’s a bug, everyone involved spins up their own claude, describes the issue, and then they all start arguing over what each other’s claudes said. it gets even better when we have to implement a feature that spans multiple services. the owner of the first service asks their claude to write detailed documentation explaining everything the second service needs to know, specifically so that the second service owner can hand it to their claude and have it implement the changes.frozen18d ago1.1K2803023.11%

this left me in tears. this is absolutely heartbreaking. how have we failed as humans this miserably? where is the humanity? this poor woman hadn't eaten for days and was so hungry that she had to eat food meant for dogs, and then she was beaten for it. just look at her face, her body, her situation. no one, fucking no one, should ever have to suffer like this. but this is barely the tip of the iceberg. want to know how bad poverty really is across the world? let me make you aware of how much suffering exists today that most of us will never see. around 838 million people were living below the World Bank's current extreme-poverty line of $3 a day in 2022. 1.1 billion people across 109 countries live in multidimensional poverty, with 586 million of them being children. these aren't just people lacking money. they can be deprived of nutrition, housing, sanitation, electricity, clean cooking fuel and education at the same time. and then there is hunger, disease and the suffering that comes with living without the basic things most of us take completely for granted. in 2024, around 4.9 million children under five died worldwide. that's roughly 13,400 children every single day. many died from causes including premature birth complications, pneumonia, diarrhoea, malaria and severe malnutrition. diarrhoeal disease alone kills roughly 444,000 children under five every year, with unsafe water, sanitation and hygiene contributing heavily to the burden. then there are the millions who survive but spend years living with malnutrition, untreated illness, disability, trauma, unsafe housing, lost education and opportunities they will never get back. behind every statistic is a human being. a child going to sleep hungry. a mother choosing between food and medicine. a family watching someone they love die from an illness that could have been treated. a person working while sick because missing one day means their family doesn't eat. poverty is so much more than a lack of money. it is the loss of choices, health, safety, dignity, education and opportunity. sometimes, it becomes the loss of life itself. and perhaps the most devastating part is that so much of this suffering is preventable. we know how to treat malnutrition. we know how to prevent countless infectious diseases. we know how to provide clean water and sanitation. we have vaccines, antibiotics, hospitals, medical knowledge and enough technological capability to solve problems that still destroy millions of lives. yet there are still people who are so hungry that they eat whatever food they can find. i don't think we should ever become comfortable with that. we should be angry enough to care, compassionate enough to help, and ambitious enough to solve the problems that keep producing this suffering. because behind every number is a person who never asked to be born into poverty. and every single one of them deserves the chance to live a life with dignity. fuck you if you are not trying to save these people and only trying to fulfil your own selfish goals. keep them in mind, they need you.frozen20d ago1.1K1703001.89%

dude gps is absolutely fucking crazy, how does it even exist? it is a pure work of art. there are satellites flying roughly 20,200 km above earth, moving at thousands of kilometers per hour, carrying atomic clocks so precise that tiny differences in time become differences in your location. the gps system has a baseline constellation of 24 satellites arranged across six orbital planes, with additional satellites normally in orbit for redundancy and coverage. and the way it figures out where you are is fucking beautiful. every satellite continuously broadcasts a radio signal containing its position and an incredibly precise timestamp. your phone receives the signal and measures how long it took to arrive. radio waves travel at the speed of light: 299,792,458 m/s so the basic equation is: distance = speed × time if you know where the satellite was and how long its signal took to reach you, you know your approximate distance from that satellite. do this with multiple satellites and you get intersecting spheres around them. the point where those spheres intersect is your position and is called trilateration. but here is where it gets even crazier. your phone needs to solve for four unknowns: x, y, z, and time. your position has three dimensions. the fourth unknown is the error in your phone’s clock. the satellites have extremely precise atomic clocks but your phone doesn’t. so the receiver needs signals from at least four satellites to solve for both your three-dimensional position and its clock offset. and then einstein enters the room. gps literally depends on special relativity and general relativity. special relativity says a moving clock runs slower. the satellites are moving rapidly around earth, so their motion causes their clocks to tick about 7 microseconds per day slower relative to clocks on earth. general relativity says clocks in weaker gravitational fields run faster. the satellites are much farther from earth’s mass, so gravity makes their clocks tick about 45 microseconds per day faster. combine the two effects and the satellite clocks gain roughly: 38 microseconds per day. 38 microseconds sounds completely irrelevant but it really isn’t. light travels roughly 300 meters in one microsecond. so an uncorrected relativistic clock error would translate into roughly 11 kilometers of range error per day, rapidly destroying the usefulness of the system for navigation. and gps is only one system inside gnss, the global navigation satellite system family. there is gps from the united states, galileo from europe, glonass from russia, beidou from china, navic from india, qzss from japan. modern receivers can use signals from multiple constellations to improve positioning and availability. so when you open google maps and see that tiny blue dot showing exactly where you are, there is an absurd amount of physics happening underneath it. orbital mechanics, electromagnetism, atomic clocks, trilateration, systems of nonlinear equations, signal processing, error correction, atmospheric modelling. and two of the most profound theories in physics correcting the passage of time itself. you are holding a device that looks at objects 20,000 kilometers above earth, measures differences in the arrival time of electromagnetic waves down to incredibly small fractions of a second, solves the geometry, corrects for the atmosphere, accounts for orbital motion, and applies einstein’s relativity. and then it tells you: turn left in 200 meters. humanity is fucking insane.frozen28d ago1.0K31230185.35%

the journey to become tony stark (general relativity arc): - revised lecture 5 & almost done with lecture 6 - gonna restart with the book soon also, here’s a little fact for you: when inside a black hole, your time and space coordinates swap so the decreasing of distance is as inevitable as the time going forward, so you will unavoidably fall inside the black hole - this is the concrete reason why you cant escape from a black hole and not because the gravity is “too strong”frozen29d ago9233104054.33%

dude claude is actually so fucking insane when you really think about it. we took rocks, melted them, carved microscopic pathways into them, and figured out how to make electricity dance through those pathways in very specific patterns. then we invented neural networks, came up with something called attention mechanisms, and somehow taught these rocks to pay attention to words, connect ideas, write code, and help us solve problems. like what the actual fuck. somewhere between sand, matrix multiplication, and billions of tiny electrical decisions, we ended up with a rock that you can talk to about philosophy at 3 am and ask to debug your fucking codebase five minutes later. humanity really looked at a handful of minerals and decided to teach them how to think in language.3d ago8683121064.61%

You know what should be AI-powered? Employee salaries. There should be no fixed pay. You should join a company without knowing exactly how much you’ll get paid, and at the end of each month, an AI evaluates the work you’ve done and determines your salary based on your actual contribution. There could be a month where you make $100 and there could be a month where you make $100k I think this is the future.frozen23d ago412813013.16%

the evolution of llm context windows is fucking insane. in 2019, GPT-2 could handle roughly 1,024 tokens. today, frontier models can handle millions of tokens in a single context. that is roughly a 1,000×+ increase in only a few years. and the progression is insane. → GPT-2 | 2019 1K tokens the early transformer era, where attention made long sequences extremely expensive. → GPT-3 | 2020 2K tokens doubled the context while massively scaling model size and established modern few-shot prompting. → GPT-3.5 | 2022 4K tokens made substantially longer conversations practical. → GPT-4 | 2023 8K → 32K tokens a major jump that made genuinely large documents usable inside one prompt. → Claude 2 | 2023 100K tokens one of the first major jumps into truly long-context LLMs. → GPT-4 Turbo | 2023 128K tokens crossed the 100K barrier and made huge documents much more practical. → Claude 3 | 2024 200K tokens Anthropic pushed long-context models into the hundreds-of-thousands range. → Llama 3.1 | 2024 128K tokens a massive jump for open-weight models, taking Llama from 8K to 128K. → Gemini 1.5 Pro | 2024 1M → 2M tokens Google effectively made million-token context a real product capability. → Claude 3.5 / 3.7 | 2024 to 2025 200K tokens Anthropic focused on making long context useful for reasoning and coding. → Gemini 2.5 Pro | 2025 1M tokens million-token context became part of Google’s frontier reasoning stack. → Llama 4 Scout | 2025 10M tokens Meta went completely fucking crazy, pushing open models to a 10-million-token context window. → Claude Opus 5.5 | 2026 200K+ tokens Anthropic continued pushing long-horizon reasoning and agentic workloads. → Gemini 3.1 Pro | 2026 1,048,576 tokens Google kept the million-token context while improving reasoning, multimodality and tool use. → GPT-6 | 2026 ~1M tokens OpenAI’s latest generation pushes million-token context into its frontier model family. and here’s where the engineering gets crazy. standard self-attention has roughly quadratic complexity: O(n²) double the sequence length and the number of potential token interactions can increase by roughly 4×. go from 100K to 1M tokens? that’s 10× more tokens, but potentially 100× more pairwise attention interactions. so researchers had to attack the problem from multiple directions. RoPE improved positional representations. ALiBi helped models generalize to longer sequences. FlashAttention made attention dramatically more memory efficient. MQA and GQA reduced KV-cache memory and bandwidth requirements. position interpolation and YaRN helped extend models toward longer contexts.frozen22d ago392803103.06%

dude the fact that you can just hear a sequence of sounds and somehow understand what the fuck someone is trying to tell you is absolutely insane. air molecules vibrate, those vibrations travel into your ears, your eardrums move, tiny bones amplify the motion, and microscopic hair cells turn it into electrical signals that travel into your brain. and somehow, your brain takes those signals, recognizes patterns in the sounds, connects them to words, retrieves their meanings, figures out the context, and constructs an entire idea out of them. you can understand sarcasm, metaphors, jokes, and abstract concepts that have never physically existed. someone can make a sound they've never made before, using a sentence you've never heard before, about an idea you've never encountered before, and you can still understand it. like what the actual fuck. a bunch of neurons firing in a lump of biological tissue can somehow turn vibrations in the air into meaning.10h ago308800012.92%
